Obituary of Norman LeRoy Moxley

Norman LeRoy Moxley, 91 the son of Dewitt Talmage and Jessie Edna (Badger) Moxley, was born July 5, 1918 in Newburg, Iowa. A resident of the Newburg area, he graduated from Newburg, Class of 1936. He served his country with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On March 25, 1939, Norman was united in marriage with Betty V. Trotter in Montezuma, Iowa. They moved to Newton, where Norman was employed by the Parsons Company. In 1942, a daughter, Lana, was born. Norman was a member of the International Association of Lions Club and of B.P.O.E., where he served as Exalted Ruler. Norman retired from Parsons in 1975, and then took a position with Miracle Recreation Company from 1975 to 1985. Norman had devoted his life to his wife, daughter and family, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the out doors, particularly golf, Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norman died on Wednesday morning, March 24, 2010, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Hayden ; and his sister Isla (Sawyer).. A Memorial Service for Norman will be held at a later date. Memorials in Norman's name can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and left at Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Those left to honor Norman's memory include his wife of 71 years, Betty; his daughter Lana Lea (Morris) Knopf of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his two grandchildren: Robbi Anne Holdreith and Elise Kirsten Knopf, both of the Twin Cities, Minn.; five great-grandchildren: Grace, Claire, and Joe Holdreith, and Sam and Ben Akerman-Knopf; and many friends. Norman will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
