Obituary of Phyllis Wolf

Phyllis Wolf, 73, of Newton, the daughter of Orville Leo and Amelia Mae (Cochran) Carson, was born January 14, 1937 in Clarke County, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Murray, Iowa Senior High School, Class of 1955. On May 16, 1959, Phyllis was united in marriage with Robert Eugene Wolf in Murray. They had lived in Creston, and were residents of the Newton area since 1961. Phyllis was employed by the schools ASCS Office, as a Para pro, and as a bookkeeper at Newton National Bank, for 29 years. She had devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and friends, and was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed gardening, birds, sewing, traveling, 4-H involvement, and volunteering many hours to the PTA. Phyllis was instrumental, in the 1970's, in organizing the RIF Program in the Newton schools. To fund the Program, she organized the Annual RIF Book Sale, a program so successful, it continues today. Phyllis passed away on Friday evening, March 19, 2010, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents. Private family services were held for Phyllis at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who were entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, an expression of sympathy in Phyllis' name may be left at the funeral home to: Hospice of Jasper County or the Swan Foundation. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery. Phyllis is survived by her husband Robert; daughter Lesley Ann Wolf of Harshaw, Wisconsin; son Doug Eugene (Rhonda) Wolf of Newton; her two grandsons: Devon and Dalton Wolf; two brothers: Darrell (Beverly) Carson of Murray and Everett (Lola) Carson of Johnson, Iowa; and her many friends. Rev. Merle Smith, Chaplain of Skiff Medical Center will be officiating. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton.
