Dorothy M. Swihart Newton Dorothy Marie Swihart, 81, formerly of Monroe, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, March 6, 2010, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Dorothy was born on August 11, 1928 in Chokio, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and attended high school in Chokio. Dorothy was employed in the Library Records at the Iowa State Historical Building in Des Moines, retiring in 1989. Dorothy was united in marriage with Wesley Marcil Swihart on March 25, 1944. To this union were born three children: Robert, Greg and Connie. She had devoted her life to her husband, sons and family. She and Wesley had lived in Clinton, MN, Newton, IA, in 1953, Lead, S.D., prior to Monroe, in 1964. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wesley on Oct. 1, 1991; her daughter Connie Marie Swihart; and a brother Walter Diers Funeral services for Dorothy will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends on Tuesday from 10 - 11 a.m... In lieu of flowers memorials may be left in her name to Newton Village, and left at Pence-Reese. Dorothy is survived by her sons: Robert K. (Cindy Jo) Swihart of Newton and Greg (Diana) Swihart of Newton; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister Gertrude "Toots" (Vernon) Goldsmith of Big Stone, S.D.; brothers: Melvin (Brownie) Diers of Aberdeen, S.D., Melford (Joan) Diers of Fargo, N.D. and Ted Diers of Rush City, MN; brothers-in-law: Elwin Swihart of Newton and Gary (Mary) Swihart of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and her many friends. Calling hours will be Tuesday, One hour prior to services at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton, IA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton with Rev. Merle Smith, Chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery, Monroe.
