Newton
Graveside funeral services for Floyd will be (11 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008) at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation time will be at the funeral home, one hour prior to the services. Memorials are designated in Floyd's Name to St. Luke United Methodist Church, Jasper County Senior Citizens or Hospice of Jasper County, and may be left at the Funeral Home.
Floyd W. Jurgens, 94, the son of Fred W. and Abbie (Gifford) Jurgens, was born November 10, 1913 in Kanawha, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Kanawha Senior High School, Class of 1932. On December 16, 1956, Floyd was united in marriage with Martha Smalley in Osage, Iowa. She would precede him in death. Floyd had lived in Wilmer, Minnesota; Austin, Minnesota and Forest City, Iowa. He was employed by Winnebago Industries in Forest City, retiring in 1978 as a Cap Division Foreman.
On July 19, 1970, Floyd was united in marriage with Jo Ouida Yates in Newton, Iowa. In 1981, he and Jo moved to Newton, Iowa area. Floyd had devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton, Odd Fellows and Jasper County Senior Citizens.
Floyd died Tuesday morning, October 21, 2008 in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Martha; step daughters; Mikelle Vorhies and Roberta Nye; his wife Jo O. Jurgens on June 1, 2007; two sisters; and a grandson.
Those left to honor the memory of Floyd include his daughter Mary Jane of Minnesota; a son Sam Jurgens of Minnesota; step-sons: David Bettison of Kearney, Missouri and Terry Smalley of Osage, Iowa; step daughter Beverly Gross of Kansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and eight step great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and his many good neighbors and friends.
