Obituary of Mary Louise Berd

Mary Louise Berd, the daughter of Wilber D. Gaulter and Lula Gammill, was born March 30, 1917, in Lamoni, Iowa. She was graduated from the Lamoni High School with the Class of 1934. Mary resided in Oskaloosa working as a beautician. She moved to Newton, Iowa in 1938. Mary was united in marriage to Harold J. Berd on July 10, 1943, in Troy, Kansas. Mary was a licensed professional beautician and she owned and operated Mary's Beauty Shop until she retired in 1988. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton and a member of the Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary in Newton. Mary died at the age of 91 years on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, on April 10, 1963, and a brother, Jack Gaulter on September 28, 1990. Those left to honor the memory of Mary include her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Bob Russell of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; her step-daughter, Marcia and Jon Sontag of Ames, Iowa; two grandsons, Ian Russell of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and Andrew an Sue Russell all of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; and two nephews, Kent and Linda Gaulter of Des Moines, Iowa and Scott and Peggy Gaulter of Des Moines, Iowa.
