Obituary of Mable Louise Burns

Mabel Louise Burns, the daughter of Ralph Henry and Lulu E. (Delaney) Burlingame was born August 23, 1916, in Rarition, Illinois. She was a graduate of the Laharp, Illinois High School, class of 1935. A longtime resident of Burlington, and Galesburg, Illinois, Mabel moved to the Newton, Iowa area in 1945. Mabel was united in marriage to Elvin George Burns on October 25, 1952 at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. She was employed at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington, and for 25 years by the Maytag Company Supply Department in Newton. She retired in 1981, from the Print Shop at Maytag. Mabel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Mabel died on February 12, 2008, at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchellville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elvin; four brothers: Fred in infancy, Holbert, Ralph Jr. and Ross; and a sister, Ethel Allen. Those left to honor the memory of Mabel include her three daughters and sons-in-law: Marietta Burns (Gary) Van Gorp of Greeley, Colorado, Nancy Burns (Joel) Hinton of Mystic, Iowa and Linda Burns (Roger) McNeeley of Des Moines, Iowa; her eleven grandchildren; a sister, Fern Mesecher of Argyle, Iowa and several nieces and nephews; and her many good neighbors and friends.
