Obituary of Joy Lee Skaggs

J. L. "Bud" Skaggs, was born on January 18, 1931 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to James Freeman and Blanche Charlotte (Teed) Skaggs. He had attended local schools in the Broken Arrow area. Bud served his country with the US Air Force from 1949 till 1952, during the Korean Conflict. In 1949, Bud moved to the Newton, Iowa area. He was employed by the Maytag Company, retiring from the Washer Assembly Department in 1983. On April 19, 1986, Bud was united in marriage with Betty Smith Fifer in Newton. He and Betty lived at Lake Rathbun for four years, prior to returning to Newton. Bud was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and was an avid bowler and little league baseball coach. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, woodworking and gardening. He was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church, UAW Retirees, Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post #111. Bud Skaggs, 77, died on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters Betty Van Baale and Shirley Morris. Those left to honor the memory of Bud include his wife Betty of Newton, sons Gary (Kelli) Skaggs of Newton and Jeffery Skaggs (Companion Heather Ferguson) of Newton, step-son Roger (Debbie) Fifer of Newton, daughter Judith (Fred) Finley of Marshalltown, five grandchildren Aaron (Nicole) Jones, Lisa Skaggs, Brooks Skaggs, Bryce Skaggs and Kyler Skaggs, step-grandson Josh Fifer, great-grandchildren Caleb Jones and Ty Jones, sisters Ardith (Harold) Huckleberry, Gerri Etter and Connie Woodruff, all of Newton; several nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.
