Carl E. Long Jr. Newton Graveside Memorial services for Carl E. Long Jr. will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Iowa. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Memorials are designated in Carls name, and may be left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Carl Jr., 62, the son of Carl E. Long Sr. and Phyllis May (Sherman) Long, was born January 18, 1946 in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1964. He enjoyed playing football and basketball in high school, and loved all sports in general. Carl had lived in Jasper County and Newton for most of his life, and had devoted his life to his family and friends. He was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton, retiring from the Rubber Department. He had attended a local Christian Church. Carl died on Sunday evening, March 9, 2008 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Mathew Long. Those left to honor Carls memory include his son, Scott (Susan) Long of Ohio; his three grandchildren; a brother, Sherman Lee Hayes of North Dakota; a sister, Glenna Marie (James) Larsen of Oregon; a close friend, Joe McCombs of Newton; and his many good neighbors and friends.
