John Orlo Weston, the son of Roy R. and Laura Ardella Jones Weston, was born August 6, 1917, in rural Jasper County, Iowa. He graduated from Mingo Senior High School and had attended Iowa State University. On May 20, 1939, John was united in marriage with Lena Lucille Welle in Ames, Iowa. John loved the land. He farmed near Mingo till they moved to Newton in 1987. John was a member of the Newton First Christian Church, the Jasper County Historical Society, the Mingo School Board, Ira Grange, and the Fraternal Order of Rural People. John loved his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed cooking, history, sports, and was an avid reader. John died on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa. He was 90 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lena on December 13, 2004; his grandson, Donald Neal; his two sisters and two brothers. Those left to honor Johns memory include his son, John W. and Emma Weston Of Gordon, Nebraska; his daughters, Connie and Darrell Neal of Fenimore, Wisconsin and Patricia and Larry Penn of Adel, Iowa; his seven grandchildren; his two step grandchildren; his ten great grandchildren; his eight step great grandchildren; and his three step great-great grandchildren.
