Obituary of Helen L. Deaton

Helen L. Deaton, 76, the daughter of John and Ruth (Fridlington) Vande Kieft, was born February 21, 1932 in Rose Hill, Iowa. She attended Highlawn Grade School and St. Albans High School in West Virginia, graduating from the Tracy High School with the Class of 1950. On January 2, 1953, Helen was united in marriage with Carroll Franklin Deaton in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. They spent most of their lives in Newton, Iowa. Helen had devoted her life to her husband and family, and was employed for thirty plus years by Newton Manufacturing, retiring as a Supervisor in 1989. She enjoyed her family, cooking, and helping others, and was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Newton Manufacturing 25 year Club. Helen passed away Tuesday morning, July 1, 2008 at her home in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carroll on January 23, 2001; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell Deaton, Roy Bowers, Maurice and Louise McGinley and Florence and Guy Wilson a nephew, Brian Smith and a great nephew, Mathew Smith. Those left to honor Helen's memory include her son and daughter-in-law: Kevin and Diana Deaton of Otley, Iowa; two grandchildren: Callie Deaton and Bridger Deaton; sisters: Midge Wilson of Newton, Mary Jemison of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Dorothy Vande Kieft of Pella, Iowa and Barbara Ray of Tracy, Iowa; brother, Richard (Judy) Vande Kieft of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Deaton of Muskegon, Michigan and Sandy Bowers of Newton; and her many good neighbors and friends.
