Obituary of Dorothy Ann Swihart

Dorothy, passed away Thursday evening, November 21, 2013, at her home in rural Baxter. A time of Fellowship with Dorothy's family will be 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, at Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a Graveside Service at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials have been designated in Dorothy's name, and may be left at the funeral home. Dorothy Ann Swihart, 87, the daughter of Anthony "Tony" and Alma F. (Speckner) Gill, was born March 2, 1926, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of the Grinnell Senior High, Class of 1944. On November 26, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage with Donald "Donnie" Swihart in Grinnell. A longtime resident of the Baxter area, she was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Society and a Charter Life Member of the Iowa 2nd Infantry Division Auxiliary. She devoted her life to her family and friends. Those left to honor Dorothy's memory include her husband Donnie of rural Baxter; sons: Daniel (Kay) Swihart of Yankton, South Dakota, David (Debra) Swihart of Newton, Duane (Dianna) Swihart of Baxter; her grandchildren: Kris, Emily, Kaleb, and Alex Swihart; her three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Makenna and Payton Swihart; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; her brother Bill (Carmen) Gill of Kellogg; her brother-in-law Vernon Jones of Clemons; a special lady Deborah Swihart of Ankeny; and many friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jane Jones.
