Obituary of Elizabeth M. Lothe

Elizabeth M. Lothe, the daughter of George E., Sr. and Floma G. (Clement) Boitnott, was born June 8, 1934, in Mingo, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School in 1952. On June 30, 1962, Liz was united in marriage with Burton E. Lothe at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Liz had worked as an Executive Secretary at the Maytag Company and had also worked at Hansen Directory. Her greatest joy came from being a mom and caring for their home. Liz was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, the Chat-a-Bit club, Beta Sigma Phi, the Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary and the Iowa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary. Liz enjoyed tending her flowers, following Newton Cardinal football and traveling. She was a big supporter of Newton and her grandchildren. Liz died on Monday, September 16, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was 79 years old. Liz was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to honor Liz's memory include her husband, Burton of Newton; her sons, Scott (Colette) Lothe of Marshalltown and Eric (Mary) Lothe of Newton; her grandchildren, Allison, Joseph, Anna, Phillip, Christopher, Daniel, Andrea; and her brother, George E., Jr. (Patty) Boitnott of Ottumwa. Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 20th at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Friends may greet the family Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the First United Methodist Church and left at the church or at the funeral home.
