Loretta Alicia McGivern Young, the daughter of Peter and Loretta (Kibbie) McGivern, was born January 11, 1925 in Marengo, Iowa. She was united in marriage with David N. Young on December 2, 1950 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo, Iowa. The couple lived on their farm near Altoona, Iowa for 52 years. Most recently, they lived in St. Louis, Missouri near their daughter Elizabeth, her husband Robert Fitzgerald and their family. Loretta Alicia was a member of Saints John & Paul Catholic Church in Altoona, Iowa and most recently St. Monica Catholic Church in St. Louis. She was a woman of deep Christian faith, who always put the love of God and family first. She was kind and generous to others, and her Irish warmth and humor have left treasured memories for all who knew her. Loretta Alicia received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1950 from the University of Iowa, where she met her spouse of 62 years, David, of Newton, Iowa. After she and David reared their 8 children, Loretta Alicia worked for Meredith Corporation and the Natural Resources Council of the State of Iowa in Des Moines. She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, volunteering at her church, serving as PTA President, serving on Pro-Life committees, volunteering for the American Cancer Society, and playing bridge. Loretta Alicia died at the age of 88, on Friday, March 1, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Peter McGivern. Memorial to Saints John & Paul Catholic Church in Altoona or St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Those proudly honoring Loretta Alicia's memory include her husband David, of St. Louis, MO; 4 daughters: Elizabeth (Robert) Fitzgerald of St. Louis, MO, Rebecca (Larry) Sterbick of Red Oak, Iowa, Maureen Zirbel of Clearwater, Florida, Laura (Leo) Brazeau; 4 sons: David Jr. of Zuni, NM, Thomas of Dubois, WY, John (Chris) Young of Cold Spring, MN, and Mark (Jill) Young of W. Pueblo, CO; 20 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; her 3 sisters: Maureen (John) Martin of Palo Alto, CA, Theresa (Dr. Alvin) Mauer of Memphis, TN, Peggy Perez of Los Angeles, CA; her brother Edward J. (Lillian J.) McGivern of Keystone, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
