Obituary of Gertrude Iola Goodyk

Gertrude Iola Goodyk, 91, of Newton, passed away Sunday morning, December 16, 2012, at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton. Funeral services for Gertrude will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A time of Visitation with the family will start at 12 noon, with a coffee time following the services. The burial will be in Sully Cemetery. Memorials are being designated in Gertrude's name to Christian Reformed World Relief (World Renew), and may be left at the funeral home. Gertrude the daughter of Arie F. DeCook and Jennie (Huyser) DeCook, was born April 19, 1921, near Sully. She had received her high school education in Sully. On April 29, 1943, Gertrude was united in marriage with Peter Cornelius Goodyk at the parsonage of the Reformed Church in Sully. Together, they would farm various farms in the Jasper County area. Pete and Gertrude had moved to Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton, Gertrude in 2007. She had devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church. She was a kind and warm hearted lady, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Gertrude passed away Sunday morning, December 16, 2012, at Heritage Manor. Those left to honor Gertrude's memory include her sister Anna Mae Nikkel of Sully; her brother Armand (Frances) DeCook of Sully; sisters-in-law: Nellie Fay DeCook of Oskaloosa, Louise Nikkel and Esther Goodyk, both of Pella and Freda Goodyk of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Dave and Joanne Cline of Sully; and many other friends. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pete on February 12, 2008; a brother Walton DeCook; and a brother-in-law James Nikkel.
