Obituary of Rozelle Van Dalen

Clifford "Rozelle" Van Dalen, 97, died October 17, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Newton. Visitation with the family will be held at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. A service to celebrate his life will take place on Monday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Heights Alliance Church 2500 S. 13th Ave. E. in Newton. Memorials may be designated in Rozelle's name to Skiff Hospice. The first-born son of Emmett W. and Fannie G. (Claussen) Van Dalen, Rozelle was born September 2, 1915. He spent his life farming in Jasper County. Rozelle attended Elk Creek Country School through eighth grade and graduated from Sully High School in 1932. On December 8, 1940, he was married to Margaret M. Welle. They were married 69 years before she preceded him in death on August 25, 2010. His life was dedicated to his Lord, his family, his church, and his community. Rozelle is survived by his children: Marilyn (Ralph) Helm of Berwick, Iowa; Sharon (David) Damkot of Jericho, Vermont; David (Sharon) Van Dalen of Newton, Iowa; Nancy (Charles) Faber of Ocheyedan, Iowa; Norma Van Dalen of Mexico City, Mexico; Gary (Lori) Van Dalen of Newton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Rozelle was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother, Wayne.
