William Robert White. 89, of Rock Creek, rural Kellogg, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, under the care of Skiff Hospice. Memorial services for William will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Foursquare Church in Newton. Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are being designated in William's name or to Skiff Hospice, and may be left at the church or funeral home. William, the son of Rollie and Lena (Anderson) White, was born December 9, 1922, near Prairie City, and was a graduate of the Prairie City High School. William served his country during World War II in the South Pacific, with the US Marine Corps. He had received the Purple Heart, 01AUG1944. In 1942, William was united in marriage with E. Erlene Trout, in Missouri. A lifelong resident of the Jasper County area, he was employed by the Maytag Company. In 1969, he moved to the Rock Creek area near Kellogg, and later retired as a Foreman in the Machine Shop at Maytag. He then started as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service, retired. William had devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of the Foursquare Church and a 50+ year member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M.. William was a kind and warm hearted gentleman, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and being with his friends. Those left to honor William's memory include his wife Erlene; two sons: Dick (Ann) White of Decorah and Craig White (Stacy Caroll) of Reasnor; his three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and his many friends, including Jack and Carolyn Meyers of Rock Creek. William was preceded in death by his parents; and his four sisters: Audrey in infancy, Marie Brayton, Opal Deere and Kathryn Van Maanen.
