Obituary of Evelyn - - - Petermeier

Evelyn Irene Petermeier. 80, of Newton, passed away Monday morning, September 24, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services for Evelyn will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are being designated in Evelyn's name, and may be left at the funeral home. Evelyn, the daughter of Wendell and Frances (Emery) Kono, was born July 14, 1932, in Newton. She attended the Newton Schools. On October 3, 1948, Evelyn was united in marriage with Clifford Lyle Petermeier in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. A lifelong resident of the Newton area, she was a telephone operator, was self-employed in Childcare in her home, and was the office manager for her husband business, Cliff's Maintenance. She had devoted her life to his family and friends, and helped raise many local children. She was a past member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Evelyn was a kind and warm hearted lady, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: Wendell and Frances Kono; her husband Clifford on Nov. 8, 2006; her god son, Scott Halter; and her brother LeRoy Kono. Those left to honor Evelyn's memory include her daughter Lisa (Dennis) McCamy of New Jersey; her son Rick (Shelley) Petermeier of Iberia, MO; her five grandchildren: Adam, Aaron, Alison, Sydney and Jason; her four sisters: Jean, Judy, Sally and Wendy; and her many friends. . .
