Obituary of Kenneth Kermit Knox

Kenneth Kermit Knox, 83, of Newton, passed away Thursday morning, August 2, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center, under the care of Skiff Hospice, in Newton. Funeral services for Kenneth will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 6, 2012, at the Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are being designated in Kenneth's name or to Skiff Hospice, and may be left at the funeral home. Kenneth, the son of Glenn and Fern (Briggs) Knox, was born August 27, 1928, in Tracy, IA. He attended Tracy Schools. Kenneth served his country with the US Army in Korea, and received a bronze star, with Valor. A resident of the Newton area since Oct. 1949, Kenneth was employed by the Maytag Company in the shipping and receiving department, retiring Sept. 30, 1988, from the power plant department. On March 26, 1952, Kenneth was united in marriage with Mable J. Carter, in Newton. He had devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of the Newton V.F.W. Post #1655. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Aaron Knox. Those left to honor Kenneth's memory include his wife Mable; four children: sons: Kenny (Kathy Rasmussen) Knox of Brooklyn and Kevin (Laurie) Knox of Grinnell; daughters: Kathi (Steve) Owens and Karla (Dan) Jorgenson, of Newton; his ten grandchildren: Kandi and Jacki Owens; Kara, Amanda, Jeremy Knox; Lorissa and Jason Jorgenson; Holly, Shawn and Michelle Knox, his eight great-grandchildren, (He had his own special names for each grandchild and great-grandchild); his sister Marguerite Knox of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
