Obituary of Robert James Finn

Robert James Finn, the son of Howard Gardner and Olive Bell McConeghey Finn, was born October 5, 1921 in Monroe, Iowa. He graduated from the Newton Senior High with the class of 1939. On July 18, 1943 Bob was united in marriage with Margaret Van Baren at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in rural Newton. Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Machinist during World War II and was stationed in England. He loved to work the land and life revolved around the farm. Bob was a longtime member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and the BB Breakfast Club. Bob died on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 87 years old. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joyce Tharp, his sister, Linda Short, and his daughter-in-law, "Miss Jewel" Finn. Those left to honor Bob's memory include his wife of 66 years, Margaret Finn of Newton; his son, Jim Finn of Liberty, Missouri; his daughters, Judy (Andy) Meese of Houston, Texas, and Joanne Finn and her fiancé, Don Winton of Newton, Iowa; a son-in-law, Perry Tharp; his eight grandchildren, his three great grandchildren; and his faithful dog and constant companion, Harley.
