Vickie 'Kleinendorst' Calhoon Newton Funeral services for 'Vickie' will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the local arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., service time, on Tuesday. In LIEU of flowers: Memorials in Vickie's name are being designated. Vera Jean 'Vickie' Calhoon, 81, the daughter of Neal and Elizabeth "VanHemert" Kleinendorst, was born February 4, 1928 at the family home in Newton. She attended Newton schools. On December 26, 1949, Vickie was united in marriage with Max L. Calhoon of Ames, Iowa, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. She was employed for several years after high school by Parsons Company in Newton, as an office clerk. In 1971, Max started his own consulting engineering company in Naperville, Illinois, and Vickie worked full time in the business until 1993. She had devoted her life to her family, and she and Max were members of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, until after college when they moved away from the Newton area. She enjoyed working on crafts, such as needlepoint, flower arrangements and taking care of her perennial beds of flowers around their house. She also liked to cook for family gatherings. Vickie died on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at her home in Aurora, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Cornie, John and Lester; and her sisters Elsie, Josephine, Leona, Lorena Faye, Beverly and Wilma. Those left to honor Vickie's memory include her husband Max; two sons: Mark of Seattle, Washington and Kent (Julie) of Aurora, Illinois; her grandchildren: Julie Eleanor 'Calhoon' Neiley (Robert) of Issaquah, Washington, Benjamin and Andrew Calhoon of Aurora, Illinois; and her great grandson Karn Neiley of Issaquah; her brother and sisters: Bob Kleinendorst (Dorothy) and Bernice York (Frank) all of Newton, and LaVonne Talbott (Gene) of Olathe, Kansas; two special nieces, Karen Klouda DeVore of Indianola, Iowa and Linda Beth Creed Tiedje of Lansing, Michigan; and special friends Joanie and Louis Lantiegne of Naperville, Illinois. Calling hours will be Tuesday from One hour prior to services, 9:30 till 10:30 a.m., with the family at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton, IA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton on Tuesday at 11:30 am.
