Obituary of Earl James Haynes

Earl James Haynes, the son of Ross James and Edith Bertha (Handorf) Haynes, was born June 26, 1929 in Marshall County, Iowa. Earl served his country in the United States Army. On December 4, 1954, Earl was united in marriage with Jo Ann Swalwell in Unionville, Missouri. He worked in maintenance for the Maytag Company in Newton. Earl was a member of the Kellogg Senior Citizens and the Kellogg historical Society. He enjoyed NASCAR, playing Skip-bo, Ford Mustangs, cooking out for friends and family, drinking coffee and eating sweet corn. Earl died on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 82 years old. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Todd Peak; a sister, Betty Watts and his brother, Jimmy Haynes. Those left to honor Earls memory include his wife, Jo Ann of Kellogg; his daughters, Mary Ann Haynes of Des Moines, Susan Peak of Grinnell and Sandy (Tony) Pruitt of Newton; his grandchildren, Angela Welch, Tiffany Peak, Sierra Nations and James Pruitt; his seven great grandchildren; and his sisters, Doris Hinson and Evelyn Moore of Dunedin, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Earl's name to the Kellogg Senior Citizens or the Kellogg Historical Society and may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
