Obituary of Jennie Luella Brown

Jennie Luella Brown, 89, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral service for Jennie will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. The Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held at the church, one hour prior to the services. Pastor Gary Marzolf will conduct the services. Memorials are being designated in Jennie's name to the First United Methodist Church or Skiff Hospice. Burial will be in the Mitchellville Cemetery, 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11. Jennie L. Brown, the daughter of Theodor and Borghild (Rossedal) Johnson, was born June 2, 1923, in Humboldt. She was one of seven children, and she graduated from the Humboldt Senior High, Class of 1941. On August 2, 1942, Jennie was united in marriage with Lawrence E. "Larry" Brown in Bethany, Missouri. They were longtime residents of the Newton area, since 1962. Jennie devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church. Jennie was a kind and warm hearted lady, and had a solid faith in God, loved to laugh and be silly. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed participating in Women's Circle, Prayer Group, 20th Century, TOPS, Chat-A-Bit and at Park Centre. She was known as "Grandma Bingo", and was good at most games, especially Scrabble. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Larry on Nov. 26, 2005; her sons: James L. Brown and Douglas L. Brown; a son-in-law Samuel Jones; a daughter-in-law Becki Brown; and her four brothers and two sisters: Henry "Hank", Hilmer, Olaf, Alfred, Marie and Bertha. Those left to honor Jennie's memory include her children: daughters & sons-in-law: Marcia & Vern Hansen of Cedar Falls and Mary & Kenneth Workman of Livermore, CA; sons & daughters-in-law: David & Denise Brown of Chantilly, VA, and Mark & Kimberly Brown of Carrollton, Texas; and daughter-in-law Dori Brown of Leawood, Kansas; her fifteen grandchildren: Sarah, Matt, Jeff, Kelly, Gretchen, Ross, Erin, Ali, Zach, Kate, Bill, Jannah, Emily, Caleb and Jacob; nine great-grandchildren: Breck, Shelby, Casey, Kate, Sam, Leah, Abby, Lily and Carter; and her many good neighbors and friends.
