James H. Nikkel, the son of Tunis and Nellie Stek Nikkel, was born November 10, 1923 in rural Lynnville, Iowa and attended Lynnville schools. On April 8, 1945, James was united in marriage with Anna Mae DeCook in Sully, Iowa. James loved the land, enjoyed working the farm and raising Polled Hereford cattle. James was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sully and a past board member of the Sully Christian School, Sully Telephone Assn. and the A.S.C.S. (now the F.S.A). James enjoyed making stained glass pieces for craft shows, attending farm/livestock shows and carpentry, such as building their current home. James died Friday, December 9, 2011, at Heritage Manor in Newton at the age of 88 years old. James was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kern; his sisters and brother-in-laws, Jenny and John Van Maanen, Cornelia and Fred Loynachan; his brothers, Edward Nikkel and Wilbur Nikkel; brother-in-law, Robert Zylstra and sister-in-law, Jan Nikkel. Those left to honor James' memory include his wife, Anna Mae Nikkel of Sully, IA; daughter, Brenda (Darrel) Van Der Kamp of Ankeny, IA; daughter-in-law, Sandy Nikkel of Grinnell, IA; son, Scott (Vicki) Nikkel of Sully, IA; nine grandchildren, Jana, Brent, Ryan, Desiree, Rebecca, David, Alex, Trevor & Jacob; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Harriet Zylstra of Pella, IA and Sylvia (Gysbert) Menninga of Chicago, IL; his brothers, Leo (JoAnn) Nikkel of Pella, IA, Bruce Nikkel of Pella, IA and Nelson (Norma) Nikkel of Pella; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Nikkel and Louise Nikkel.
