Obituary of Rosalee June Thompson

Rosalee June Thompson, the daughter of Willard Vern Thompson and Pauline Viola Smith, was born February 4, 1941, in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School and went on to earn teaching and social work degrees. She worked as a teacher for many years in several communities and as a Social Worker in different capacities. On September 1, 1978, Rose was married to Robert Lee Pitz. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading, being outdoors and her family. She enjoyed giving to worthy charities and was named as a benefactor for the St. Joseph's Indian School. Rose died on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was 70 years old. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob, on July 4, 2009 and her brother, Vernon. Those left to honor Rose's memory include her step-children, James (Lisa) Pitz of Charles City, Iowa; Garth (Amy) Brock of Mt Pleasant, Iowa; Lori (Dewayne) Cody of Chesapeake, Virginia; Julie (Charles) Dockendorf of Elma, Iowa; her seven step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; her brothers, Caroll Thompson of Kellogg and Perry (Mary) Thompson of Newton and many nieces and nephews living in Washington, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas and Iowa. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated in Rose's name to Skiff Hospice.
