Obituary of Douglas Marshal Newel

Douglas Marshal Newel, the son of Eugene Francis and Kathryn Hope (Berschman) Newel, was born July 26, 1945, in Guthrie Center, Iowa.  Doug received his degree from UNI.

Doug worked as an Insurance Salesman.  He also taught Driver’s Ed at the Newton Senior High School.  Doug enjoyed coaching track and swimming and being an assistant basketball coach.  If he wasn’t coaching, he enjoyed watching sports of all kinds.

On October 17, 1994, Doug was united in marriage with Linda K. Hartley.  Together they lived a life filled with humor, sports and family.

Doug died on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his home in Newton. He was 79 years old.  Doug was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Brian Newel.

Those left to honor Doug’s memory include his wife, Linda; his sons Tad Newel and Ryan (Kris) Newel; his step-son, Bryan (Brenda) Dickey; his step-daughter, Missy (Doug) Cupples; his twelve grandchildren; and his sister, Kathy (Scott) Rachel.
