Obituary of Elmer Henry Ehler II
Elmer Henry “Hank” Ehler II, passed away Wednesday, afternoon, August 21, 2024, at his home in rural Kellogg. The son of Elmer Henry Ehler I and Birdie Eula Stacy. Hank was born November 5, 1941, in Marshalltown. He attended and graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1960.
On June 12, 1963, Hank was united in marriage to Janis Faye Sisco, at the Newton First Baptist Church. He enjoyed sharing his home life with Janis for 61 years and loved time with his family. He worked as a seed corn plant manager for many years in Monroe. He was a livestock farmer and more than anything enjoyed being outdoors, especially if it involved fishing. During his life he acquired a large fishing lure collection. His children and grandchildren were very involved in athletics, 4-H/FFA; Hank enjoyed attending their games and watching them exhibit livestock. He himself was a State Track Champion/Runner-up and Drake Relays Champion/Runner-up in the Discus and Football Throw while at Newton High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Mandi Ehler; a grandson Rhett Ehler; and two brothers: Max and Martin Ehler.
Those left to honor Hank’s memory include his wife Janis of rural Kellogg; a daughter Stevi Ehler (Trent Rohrdanz) of Newton; his sons: Elmer “Trai” (Lori) Ehler III of Fairbury, Nebraska and Jurgen (Mari Anne) Ehler of Tipton; his grandchildren: Levi, Clay, Whitney, Neal, Blake, Rory and Zane; his eight great-grandchildren; a brother Richard Ehler of Newton; and his many extended family and friends.
A Time of Visitation will be held 5p.m. until 7p.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at The Pence~Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Newton. With a private family graveside services and burial on Wednesday, at Rock Creek Liberty Cemetery in rural Kellogg.
In lieu of memorials, flowers may be left to Hank’s family.
