Obituary of Steven White
Steven Douglas "Whitey" White, a beloved member of the community, passed away on March 13, 2024. He was born on June 29, 1956, in Greenfield, Iowa, to proud parents Charles and Marlene (McGirr) White.
Steve's journey through life was marked by dedication, passion, and a zest for living. He embarked on his professional career at the age of 17, working diligently at the Newton Water Plant, for 48 years, until his well-deserved retirement in July of 2023. Steve found joy in various pursuits, including his love for Blues music, spending quality time with friends, communing with nature through camping and fishing, and honing his skills as a copper smith. His adventurous spirit led him to become a master scuba diver, exploring the depths of the underwater world with unparalleled enthusiasm.
For a quarter of a century, Steve graced the Iowa State Fair Pioneer Hall as its esteemed blacksmith, where his craftsmanship and dedication left an indelible mark. His affiliation with esteemed organizations such as ABANA (Artists Blacksmith Association of North America) and UMBA (Upper Midwest Blacksmiths Association) showcased his commitment to his craft and his desire to continuously improve and share his knowledge.
Steve's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit will be cherished forever, serving as a beacon of light in the memories of those he touched. Those left to honor Steve's memory include his wife, Denise; his son, James White; his step daughters, Teresa Bloomquist and Kari Kinion; his step son, Travis Bloomquist; his seven grandchildren; his brother, Scott White and his sisters, Donita Cook and Lisa White.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; and his step mother, Judy White; and a sister-in-law, Yvette Anderson.
A Celebration of Steve's life will be from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm Saturdy, April 13, 2024 at the Izaak Walton League in Newton, Iowa to honor his memory and commemorate the impact he made on the lives of those around him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Steve's name to the Center for Liver Disease in Des Moines, and may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
