Obituary of Dorothy Lea Astelle

Dorothy Lea Astelle, 90, the daughter of Horal Alfred and Agnes I. (Fitch) Doland, was born December 31, 1933, near Newton, Iowa.  She attended the Newton Schools. 

   On August 18, 2007, Dorothy Doland-Grush was united in marriage with Mr. Kay “Papa” Astelle in Newton.  A longtime resident of the Newton area, she was self-employed in housekeeping in local businesses and in individuals homes.   

   She had devoted her life to her family and friends, and in the past attended the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.

   Dorothy passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Park Centre Health Care, under the care of WesleyLife Hospice. 

   Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Mark Vincent Grush and leter Kay Astelle on Feb. 12, 2013; a son Robert H. Butler; a grandson John Chriss; a great-great granddaughter Danielle Elizabeth; a great-great-great grandson Kaleb.

   Graveside services and burial for Dorothy will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Newton Union Cemetery.  Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements.  Memorials are being designated in Dorothy’s name, to WesleyLife Hospice, and may be left at the funeral home. 

   Those left to honor Dorothy’s memory include step-sons: Stan (Jan) Astelle of Grinnell and Darrell (Candy) Astelle of Waterloo; step-daughter Lois LaRue of Scribner, Neb.; 13 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and several great-great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Dee Astle of Wyoming and Leon (Blanche) Astle of Logan, UT; and her many extended family and friends.
