Obituary of Marilyn Kelly Maher

Marilyn Kelly Maher passed away December 29, 2023, at the age of 87. She was born March 14, 1936, to Leo and Clara (Heller) Kelly in Colfax, Iowa. Marilyn graduated from Ottumwa Heights Academy and Junior College. She then earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Drake University. Marilyn married John (Jack) Maher on June 27, 1959, at Sacred Heart Church in Newton, Iowa. She spent 35 years teaching elementary and junior high school in Illinois, Iowa, and Oklahoma. She was known for her love of fashion, and in her retirement years, she voraciously shopped at Von Maur and traveled the world. Marilyn is survived by her husband, daughters Michelle Maher (Richard Smart) and Stacia (Tom) Reader and granddaughters Matilda and Eloise Reader. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward (Eddie) Kelly. Private burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Newton, Iowa.
