Obituary of Jane Eileen McDaniel
Jane Eileen (Kreager) McDaniel, 91 of Newton, Iowa, passed away on October 19, 2023 in the presence of her loving family.
The daughter of Laurence and Eva Muriel (Langmaid) Kreager, Jane was born on February 25, 1932 in Newton, Iowa. She grew up on her parent’s farm and went on to graduate from Newton High School in 1950. In 1953 she married William “Pete” McDaniel and they remained happily married until his death in 1981.
She worked as a secretary at Maytag for 39 years, where she retired in 1989. She later worked for Rock Communication for 27 years. Jane was active in her community throughout her life. She was a member of Wittenberg Church, the Wittenberg Women’s Fellowship, Wittenberg Grange and cherished many years on a bowling league and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Kiwanis.
Throughout her life, Jane enjoyed many hobbies and activities. She enjoyed flower gardening, word puzzles, reading, dining out with friends, dancing, and shopping for collectibles, antiques, and bargains. Jane cared deeply for her family and friends and constantly sacrificed her time and energy for all of the people in her life. Most of all, Jane enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed visiting her son in Oregon, and grandchildren & great-grandchildren in California, and New York and sent many thoughtful cards and packages to her family throughout the year.
Those left to honor Jane’s memory are her partner of nearly 30 years, Kenneth Thompson; her son William (Robin Klimek) McDaniel, of Bend, Oregon; Grandchildren; Heather McDaniel of Ithaca, New York; Justin (Alissa) McDaniel of Auburn, California; Great grandchildren; Olivia and Alexandra Filiberto, Roman, Allison and Natalie McDaniel; her sister, Jean Hagedorn and son Chris (Joy) Hagedorn; nephews Joe Provin and Mike (Lucie) Provin and his daughter Emily (Shawn) Barrett and their children Kaylee, Gannon and Nolan and his son Ryan and his daughter Remington; niece Lynette (Steve) Gifford and children Brooke and Colton; and 1st cousin June Tinnermeier Schmidt.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William (Pete) McDaniel in 1981, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Ed Provin, brother-in-law Dave Hagedorn and cousin Ruth Kreager Jackson.
Memorial services will be 11:00 am Friday, November 17, 2023 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at 10:00 am until the services at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in Jane’s name may be made to Wittenberg Church Historical Society, Elks Club, Wittemberg Cemetery or Jasper County Historical Museum.
