Obituary of Larry D. Plumb

Larry Dean Plumb, the son of Larry E. and Magel M. (Lucas) Plumb, was born February 2, 1956, in San Jose, California.  He graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1974.  He went on to graduate from the DMACC welding program.

On June 25, 1982, Larry was united in marriage with Diane Allen in Newton, Iowa.  Larry started working for the Maytag Company in Newton in 1976.  He retired as a supervisor in 2004.  Larry also worked as a local contractor in the Jasper county area from 1982-2023. Larry enjoyed fast cars, snowmobiling, motorcycles, boating, old tractors, shooting guns and traveling.  He traveled with Diane, Chase, Beau and Ella to various locations around the United States and Europe.  Traveling highlights were snowmobiling,  motorcycling and camping in Yellowstone National Park and traveling in Italy in the summer and Christmas markets in Germany, Poland and France in the winter.  Larry and Diane also loved traveling in their motorhome on Route 66. Larry was very close to his mother-in-law, Ruth Allen, and took her on several family trips to Mexico and Disney World in Florida.

Larry died on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.  He was 67 years old.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jeff.  

Those left to honor Larry’s memory include his wife, Diane, his sons, Chase Plumb and Beau Plumb; his granddaughter, Ella; his brothers, Randy Plumb, Dick (Jesse) Plumb, Van (Debbie) Plumb; his sister, Tracy Plumb and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.  A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Pence Reese Funeral Home in Newton.  Memorials may be designated in Larry’s name to the First United Methodist Church, the Wounded Warrior’s Project or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and may be left at the church or at the Pence Reese Funeral Home.
