Obituary of Ronald R Smith

Ronald Ross Smith, of Chariton, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday evening, February 7, 2023, in Des Moines.  

   A visitation with the family will be 12:30 pm, just prior to the celebration of life at 1:30 pm, Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton.  Memorials may be left at the funeral home, to Ron’s family. 

   Ron, the son of Robert Ross and Elreta (Betterton) Smith, was born April 3, 1944, in Downers Grove, Illinois.  He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. 

   On July 3, 1976, Ron was united in marriage to Sheila Pyle at the Rose Garden in Des Moines.  He was employed as a welder by R. and R. Repair. 

   Ron enjoyed sharing his home life with Sheila and their kids.  He also enjoyed tinkering around the garage. 

   He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmom Margaret; his wife Sheila; a sister Sharon Smith-Ucci, brothers: Tommy, Jimmy and Johnny Smith, Ray Weaver, Bob Hubler, and Harold Hubler, and a sister-in-law Doris Smith.  

   Those left to honor the memory of Ron’s include his daughters: Traci Deems (Tim Danielson), Shawna Fillmore (Craig Corbett) and Stephanie Black; his six grandchildren: Shane (Jen), Josh, Sara, Jessi (Rob), David (Liz) and James (Emily); his twelve great-grandchildren: Alex, Gabby (Hunter), Larkin, Carson, Tyler, Hunter, Landon, Zeke, Gage, Jude, Brody and Greysyn; his sister Pat “Patsy” Braaksma; his nephews: Rick Braaksma and Randy Braaksma; his beloved cat Rascal; and his many extended family and friends.
