Obituary of Jo Ann Haynes

Jo Ann Haynes, the daughter of Alva Lynn and Bonnie Marie (Wasson) Swalwell, was born October 14, 1936, in Jasper County, Iowa.  She graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1954.

On December 4, 1954, Jo Ann was united in marriage with Earl James Haynes in Unionville, Missouri.  Jo Ann had worked at Stockton’s and Easter’s grocery stores and retired from Thomberts in Newton.  After retirement, Jo Ann had worked for Hedrick Bank in Kellogg.  Jo Ann enjoyed spending time on the computer and perusing Facebook.  She was a longtime Shaklee distributor.  She was a great cook, very creative and loved helping people.  Her pride and joy rested with her grandchildren, their families and her dog, Biff.  Jo Ann was a longtime member of the Kellogg Garden Club.

Jo Ann died Friday, December 30, 2022, at her home in Kellogg.  She was 86 years old.  Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Earl on June 9, 2012.

Those left to honor Jo Ann’s memory include her daughters, Mary Haynes (Richard Norwood), Susan Peak and Sandra (Anthony) Pruitt; her grandchildren, Tiffany Peak, Angela Welch, Sierra Pruitt and James Pruitt; her nine great-grandchildren; and her sister, Judy (Larry) Brown.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4th at the Pence Reese Funeral Home in Newton.  A Facebook Live broadcast of the service will begin at 11:00 am on the Pence Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page.  A time of visitation with the family from 4:30 pm until 6:30pm Tuesday, January 3rd at the funeral home.  Memorials may be designated in Jo Ann’s name to the Kellogg Fire Department and may be left at the Pence Reese Funeral Home.
