Obituary of Vernyse Ruth Chapman
Vernyse R. Chapman, 68, the daughter of Virgil James and Velma (Serber) Rawlins, was born December 1, 1953, in Newton. She was a high school graduate.Vernyse died Saturday afternoon, October 1, 2022, at the home of her daughter in Knoxville. Graveside Funeral services for Vernyse will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the Newton Union Cemetery. The Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Vernyse’s family, or to a charity of your choosing. A Fellowship time will follow; 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., in Pence Tribute Center.
Vernyse was employed by MesQuaki Casino, in Tama County, retiring in 2014. She had married Frank “Bud” Chapman in Oct. 1975. She devoted her life to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud in 2018; and a sister Naomi Petrie.
Those left to honor Vernyse’s memory include her daughters: Carlene (Paul) Lutz of Knoxville and Lessa (Terry) Davis of Haverhill; her five grandchildren: Jessica Bishop, Jacob Lutz, Jennifer McRoberts; Nicole Davis and Rilie Davis; her six great-grandchildren plus one on the way; her brothers: Vester (Patty) Rawlins and Vernon (Christina) Rawlins; and her many extended family and friends.
