Obituary of Deryl Lauber
Deryl Duane Lauber, the son of Henry F. and Pearl Stella (Young) Lauber, was born May 2, 1932, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa. In 1952, Duane joined the United States Army, serving in Korea.
On May 30, 1959, Duane was united in marriage with Glenna Marlene Jenkins in Newton, Iowa. Duane enjoyed working and staying busy. He retired from Winpower with 30 years of employment. He then went to work for the Maytag Company and worked an additional 10 years. During his “retirement” he could always be found mowing the neighbors yards, helping with family projects, or spending weekends at the Iowa Speedway. Duane also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and watching racing and other sports. Duane was a member of the V.F.W. Newton Post #1655 and the American Legion Newton Post #111.
Duane died on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Newton Healthcare Center in Newton, Iowa. He was 90 years old. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Berneice Fritz, Doris Winchell, Lois Crawford, Keith Lauber and Merlin Lauber.
Those left to honor Duane’s memory include his wife, Marlene; his son, Mark (Lynn) Lauber; his daughter, Tonya (Bill) Tunink; his six grandchildren; his 8 great grandchildren, with one on the way; five siblings, Jacqueline Gregson (Donald), Donna German (Larry), MJ Mitchell, Joan Rowland (Charles) and Carol Lauber.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am until service time on Wednesday. Memorials may be designated in Duane’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home.
