Marion passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, at Newton Health Care Center.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 10:30am, Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements, with a visitation just prior to the services, 9:30 am till 10:30 am. Burial will be at the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. {Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, facemasks are encouraged.} In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to MercyOne Hospice or Marion's family.
Marion Dale Willemsen, 89, was born May 18, 1932, near Prairie City. The son of Dick and Gertie (Dop) Willemsen. He was a graduate of the Monroe High School, Class of 1950. Marion had served his country with the US Army, during the Korean Conflict, where he received the Bronze Service Star.
On January 9, 1957, Marion was united in marriage to Wanda R. Van Gorp, in Kellogg. He was a member of the Monroe American Legion Post.
Marion had devoted his life to his family and friends. He was educated as an electrician at Coyne Electric in Illinois. Over the years he was employed by the Vernon Company, twenty-three years in the Maintenance Dept., as well as starting his own business, Willemsen Electric, retiring in 1998.
Marion is survived by his brothers-in-law: Eldred Van Gorp and Carroll (Lois) Van Gorp; several nieces and nephews; and his many good neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Wanda on Jan. 13, 2018; his sister Margaret J. Hammer; and his brothers: Harold and Richard.
