Alan James Lothe, 94, of Newton, passed away Friday, September 17, at Park Centre in Newton. Graveside services in the Newton Union Cemetery will be held at a later date. The Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are being designated in Alan's name to the Newton Food Bank. Alan, the son of Lewis and Ferne (Hesson) Lothe, was born April 8, 1927, in Taylors Falls, MN. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. On Oct.19, 1947, Alan was united in marriage with Jo Anne Lorraine Hill of Baxter, IA, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. After farming south of Newton, Alan and Jo Anne owned and operated Lothe Feed Service for many years. Alan was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Elks. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, known for his wry sense of humor, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Alan was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Anne, and his brothers Darrell, Duane, and Burton. Those left to honor Alan's memory include his children: daughter Linda DeGreef of Newton; sons James Lothe of Chicago, IL and Steve Lothe of West Wardsboro, VT; his five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and his many friends.
