Obituary of Elwyn Swihart

Elwyn Morris Swihart, the son of Morris Harold and Metha Mae (Griebel) Swihart, was born August 14, 1925 on the family farm northwest of Newton, Iowa.  He grew up on the family farm and later moved to Missouri and then to Minnesota.  In 1946, Elwyn married Addie Elaine Athey in Minnesota.  In 1958, they would move to South Dakota where Elwyn went to work in the Homestake Goldmine, in Lead, SD.  Elwyn and the family moved back to Newton, Iowa in 1966, where he began working for the Maytag Company. He retired in 1988 from the heat treat department.  Elwyn enjoyed working the land and being outdoors.  He could be found, many an evening, tinkering outside on his many projects.
