Barbara J. Van Dalen Hickey

Barbara went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Accura Healthcare of Newton West, under the care of Hospice.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will follow the services with a lunch in the Pence Tribute Center, with burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, rural Newton. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Jasper County Animal Rescue League or to Barb's family, in her name.

Barbara Jo Van Dalen Hickey, 67, was born July 26, 1950, in Des Moines, and was the daughter of Gerald Wayne and Valeta Fern (Gifford) Van Dalen. Barb was a homemaker and employed as a custodian for several area restaurants. She enjoyed all animals, and her family.

Barb is survived by her brother Lehrl (Judy Brodersen) Van Dalen of Monroe; Sister-in-law Fern Van Dalen of Monroe; two nieces and a nephew; and her neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Larry Van Dalen; and a sister Lois Beth Van Dalen.
