Darrell J. Steinberger
Darrell went home to be with his Savior after a long battle with cancer, on Friday morning, November 10, 2017, at his home in rural Newton, under the care of Mercy Hospice.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the Newton Baptist Temple Church, with Rev Clayton Pickering officiating. Visitation will be 5p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Newton Baptist Temple Church, Mercy Hospice or to Darrell's family, in his name.
Darrell James Steinberger, 82, was born April 13, 1935, in Newton, the son of James Willis and Ella Mae (Tinnermeier) Steinberger.
On June 30, 1956, Darrell was united in marriage to Joy Lee Dunlavy in Monroe. Darrell was employed for many years by Maples Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, as an automobile mechanic, in Newton. Darrell enjoyed his family, farming, working on his tractors and cars, going on those Iowa Tractor rides with Joy Lee, and telling others about his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a past member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton and Silver Wheels Car Club, was a member of the Newton Baptist Temple, various tractor clubs, including M.I.P. Tractor Club in Marshalltown, and the Red Rock Thrashers. He was always praying for his family and friends.
Darrell is survived by his wife Joy Lee; daughter Marcia (Scott) McAnally of Newton; his son James (Lois) Steinberger of Altoona; his eight grandchildren and seven , plus one the way, great-grandchildren; his sisters: Mary J. "Mitzie" (Bob) Provin and Carolyn Ball; his nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law Robert Ball.
