William Gordon Duncan, loving husband and father, passed away on October 15, 2017 under hospice care at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa.
Bill was born on April 24, 1926 to Donald and Ella (Lowe) Duncan in Colfax, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Monroe High School then went on to attend Iowa State University. He enlisted in the US Naval Air Corps and served from 1944-1946. After that he lived and farmed in What Cheer, Iowa. Bill moved to Newton and taught agriculture classes at Marshalltown Community College.
On April 12, 1979, Bill married Beverly Bailey. They moved to California and made their home in Lake San Marcos. There he sold real estate. He was very successful, receiving several prestigious awards. Bill and Beverly remodeled and flipped homes before it was popular. He was an accomplished carpenter and could fix anything. He also enjoyed playing golf and tennis.
After 23 years, Bill and Beverly returned to Iowa, making their home in Polk City. In 2015, they came full circle making their home in Newton.
Bill is survived by his wife Beverly; daughter, Anne (Jim) Christianson; his son, Chris Bailey; his three granddaughters, Lisa Rucker, Elizabeth Pettigrew and Emily Vesley; and his four great granddaughters.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; a sister and two sons, Kim and Brad.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be designated to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and may be directed to Beverly at 5 Chancery Court, Newton, Iowa or to the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
