Obituary of Allen Cupples

Allen “Sonny” Cupples, Jr., the son of Allen J. and Myrtle Lee (Osborn) Cupples, was born August 3, 1950 in rural Roe, Arkansas. He grew up in Newton and attended the Newton Senior High School. Sonny proudly served in the United States Army. Following his time in the military, Sonny began working as an over the road truck driver. During his down time and after his retirement, he enjoyed working on cars. In later years, his dog was a large part of his life. Sonny died on Monday, March 13, 2017 at his home in Newton. He was 66 years old. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gene, and his sisters, Pearl Umbarger and Shirley Crabtree. Those left to honor Sonny’s memory include his sisters, Lucille Grossman of Texas, Myrtle Allene (Gordon) Nelson of Newton, Ruth Osborn of Oregon, Kay (Steve) Lepley of Newton, Sue (Dave) Munger of Newton and many nieces and nephews. Graveside Military rites will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 17 at the Newton Union Cemetery, Veteran’s Section. The family will greet friends following the cemetery services at 12 noon at the Newton American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the family in Sonny’s name at may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
