Mary Alice Munson, 96, died Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2017, at Park Centre in Newton.
Funeral Services for Mary will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, with Father William Reynolds officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21st, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who is entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will be in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Mary Alice, the daughter of Bert R. and Grace (Coakley) Shutts, was born September 16, 1920, near Sully. She was a graduate of Sully High School, and later attended William Penn College and Central College, receiving her Normal Training, to teach in a country school.
Mary was united in marriage with Jerry "Sam" Munson, and to this union was born five children: Steve, Marcia, Marrianne, Tom and Gary. She was a kind and warm hearted lady who will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She devoted her life to her husband, children and family. Mary enjoyed dancing, golfing, cooking, traveling and her coffee clubs. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Monroe American Legion Auxiliary.
Those left to honor Mary Alice's memory include her children: Steve (his spouse Marlys) Munson of Monroe, Marcia (her spouse Robert) Schnug of Monroe, Marrianne Burkhardt (her spouse Tom Henline) of Pleasant Hill, Tom (his spouse Beth) Munson of Kailua, Hawaii, and Gary (his spouse Darla) Munson of Monroe; numerous grandchildren; a brother Ken (Rosemary) Shutts in Arizona; and her many friends.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerry; her brothers: Dugan and Carroll Shutts; and her sister, Cecilia.
