Funeral services for Kay will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2017, at Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services. As an expression of sympathy, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Newton Christian School or a charity of your choosing.
Kay Cornelia Bruxvoort, the daughter of William Martin and Tienne (DeVries) Boender, was born February 6, 1922 in Pella, Iowa. She attended the Flint Ridge Country Schools in Marion County, Iowa. Kay had made her profession of faith at as a teenager, in the Protestant Reformed Church.
On May 29, 1941, she was united in marriage with Herman Bruxvoort in Oskaloosa. To this union one son was born, Donald Wayne. They made their home on farms in the Sully, Peoria and Kellogg areas, before moving to Newton, where they lived for over the past sixty years. Helping Herman on the farm, Kay had devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and family. Kay and Herman were faithful member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and participated and served in many varied ways. The last seven years, Kay spent at the Newton Village Retirement Community. She truly enjoyed her family and friends, cooking, baking, her flowers, birds and all nature.
Kay went to be with her Lord on Friday morning, January 13, 2017, at the Nelson Manor in Newton. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herman on Feb. 27, 2010; her four brothers: John, Sam, Cornie and Ed Boender; four sisters: Nellie Stouwie, Helen Bruxvoort, Wilma Veldhuizen and Martha Eniengenberg.
Those left to honor Kay's memory are her son Donald (Theresa) Bruxvoort of South Haven, MI; two granddaughters: Jana (Brian) Van Haaften of Wesley Chapel, FL and Pam (Eric) Hyde of Des Moines; a grandson Brian (Chris) Bruxvoort of Ypsilanti, MI; her seven great-grandchildren: Tiffany and Reece (Jessica) Van Haaften, Caleb, Ezra and Sophia Hyde, and Ursula and Donovan Bruxvoort; a brother Harry (Elizabeth) Boender; a sister-in-law Marilyn Boender; many nieces and nephews; and her many good neighbors and friends.
Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and showed much affection for her family, friends, the elderly and her church. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
