John P. Robson, Sr. of Newton, passed from this life on Monday morning, August 1, 2016, at his home at Park Centre in Newton.
John Paul Robson, Sr., 96, was born June 30, 1920, near Laurel, the son of John Thomas and Martha (Knapp) Robson. He had served his country during World War II, with the US Navy.
John was employed by the Maytag Company for ten years, retiring in 1978, after eighteen years with the Newton Public Schools, as the grounds and buildings maintenance foreman. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed sing, especially country western songs, enjoyed camping and traveling. He had attended the First United Methodist Church, First Lutheran Church, and Assembly of God Church, all in Newton.
John is survived by his daughter Judy (Tony) Schutty; step son Dan (Nancy) Markmann; his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his sister Martha Guthrie; and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Edith White, second wife Laura W. Hasselman and his third wife Helen E. Hildebrand-Markmann; a daughter Sharon Hildebrand; his son John Robson, Jr.; a granddaughter Michele Robson; a sister and his brothers.
A time of remembrance and the funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2016, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be at the funeral home an hour prior to the services, with burial at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in John's name to a charity of your choosing.
