Obituary of Jane Marie Bonnett
Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jane Marie Bonnet, the daughter of Lawrence Thomas and Jennie Nadine (Belcher) McNeley, was born January 27, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. Jane graduated from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa with the class of 1963. On May 16, 1964, Jane was united in marriage with David Erven Bonnett in Des Moines.
Jane had worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Nelson Manor in Newton, Iowa for 15 years. Her generous heart for helping others led her to become a foster parent, where she opened her home to numerous children over the years. Her concern for the welfare of others led her to take on the task of organizing benefits, for over 30 years, for many people in the community, even while battling her own painful bone disease. Her love for her family was demonstrated in how she gave of what she had. Jane was a longtime member of the Newton V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary; she was a former Grand Marshall of the Newton July 4th Parade and was recognized by K.C.C.I. journalist Cynthia Fodor for her volunteer work.
Jane died on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at her son’s home in Newton surrounded by her family. She was 71 years old. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David E. Bonnett, Sr. on April 5, 2006; her brothers, Chuck McNeley and Bob McNeley; her sisters, Judy Dorsey and Pat Carpenter.
Those left to honor Jane’s memory include her son, David E. Bonnett, Jr. of Newton; her daughter, Tammy Bonnett of Colfax; her 5 grandchildren; her 11 great grandchildren; her sister, Donna McNeley; her uncle, Bill Bonnett and many nieces and nephews.
She was an angel on earth and is now watching over us in heaven as our angel. We will miss her and will love her forever.
