Obituary of Charles Dennis Koons

Charles D. Koons of Newton, passed from this life on Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services Charles will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016, Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A visitation with the family will be held from 5 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Charles’ name to Central College in Pella or a charity of your choosing. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery in Marshalltown. Charles Dennis Koons, 59, the son of Jerry Dee and Jackie A. (Mishler) Koons, was born March 20, 1957, in Des Moines. He was a graduate of the Baxter Senior High, Class of 1975, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central College in Pella. On August 4, 1979, Charles was united in marriage with Shelly E. Brand in Melbourne. To this union three children were born, Alex, Evan, and Ashley. Charles was a Public Accountant with his dad, Jerry D. Koons, PC. He devoted his life to his family and friends, and enjoyed guns, a member of the NRA , and had played football with Central College. He was a kind and warm hearted man who will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Those left to honor Charles’ memory include his wife Shelly; sons: Alex Koons and Evan Koons, both of Newton; his daughter Ashley Koons of Fort Dodge; his mother Jackie Koons; his sister Michele Spieker; his brother and sister-in-law Mark and Shelly Koons; his mother-in-law Norma Brand; and his many good friends. Charles was preceded in death by his father Jerry Dee Koons; and his father-in-law Duane Brand.
