Obituary of Doris Mae Perryman

Doris Mae Parsons Perryman was born October 31, 1926, the forth of thirteen children born to Carl and Gretchen (Drake) Parsons. Doris spent her childhood in and around Killduff, Iowa attending Killduff elementary school. After graduating from the eighth grade she attended her first year of high school in Sully then transferred to the Newton High school rooming with her younger sister, Chrystal, during the week and returning home on the weekends. Doris graduated in the class of 1945. After graduation she worked in retail, beginning a lifelong passion.
On January 18, 1946 she married Laverne Edgeton. To this union a son, Dennis, was born. They later divorced and Doris returned to work in retail. Working in Des Moines at Taylor's, a ladies ready to wear store. She worked her way up to the manager of the Des Moines Merle Hay store and later in Chicago and Indianapolis. She retired from Taylor's in 1979 at which time she married Jack Perryman and moved to Casa Grande, Arizona. When she returned to Newton, she returned to retail at Ross's clothing, Hernteen Jewelry store, Leuthold's and Mattingly Music and Book Store.
Doris died on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Newton Health Care Center. She was 89 years old. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack, sisters, Darlene Loupee, Judy Bishop, Sheryl Parsons and brothers, Carl, Dale, Lowell and Darrell.
Left to cherish Doris' memory include her son, Dennis; two grandchildren, Tina (Doug) Humrichouse and Wayne (Jean Simonson) Edgeton; daughter-in-law, Martha Edgeton and three great granddaughters, Katlyn, Laura and Amy Humrichouse; her sisters, Bonnie (Don) Bessman, JoAnne Richards, Chris (Robert) Townsend; her brothers, Wendell and Hollis; her sisters-in-law, Mary Parsons and Judy Parsons-Jones and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Doris will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials may be designated to Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg; the Kellogg Historical Society or to Iowa River Hospice.
