Obituary of Edward Lee McKeag

Edward “Ed” McKeag passed away Tuesday evening, December 1, 2015, at Heritage Manor in Newton.
A Time of Remembrances and the Internment for Ed will be held at a later date, at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated in Ed’s name. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements.
Edward Lee McKeag, 85, the son of Edward Roy and Pearl Mae (McCain) McKeag, was born May 23, 1930, in Newton. He was a high school graduate, and served his country with the US Army following World War II and as a Gunner’s Mate Second Class with the US Navy, during the Korean Conflict.
On September 24, 1961, Ed was united in marriage with Bessie L. Van Baale in Marshalltown. Ed devoted his life to his family and friends, and was employed as a Lieutenant Fireman and EMT for ten years, by the City of Newton. In the last few years, you could find Ed and Bessie mowing and caring for the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Those left to honor Ed’s memory include his wife Bessie; his two sons: Scott A. McKeag and Rusty D. McKeag, both of Newton; and many good neighbors and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters: Elain Richardson and Carlie Knapp.
