Obituary of Norman Dean Swank

A Celebration of Life for Norman D. Swank will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Newton Church of the Way. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at the Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be left to Norm's family, in his name.
Norman Dean Swank, 68, of Reasnor, the son of John H. and Gertrude (Olsthoorn) Swank, was born November 18, 1946, in Newton. He graduated from the Pella Christian High School, Class of 1965. Norm had served his country for six years with the Iowa Army National Guard.
On July 28, 1967, Norm was united in marriage with Darlene Cossel. Norm was a Master Craftsman, owning and operating Swank Custom Cabinets in Reasnor, 45 years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, archery and the outdoors. On July 14, 2007, Norm was united in marriage with Karol Vanderloo at Stoney Point, South of Reasnor. His church was an important part of his life, and he was a member of the Newton Church of the Way, a member of the Pella Masonic Lodge #55, Shriners International, Iowa State Archery Association(ISAA), National Field Archery Association(NFAA), Life member of GWRRA and Benefactor member of the NRA. Norm loved spending time with his family and working alongside his sons.
Norm entered into the gates of Glory on Wednesday evening, November 11, 2015, at his home in Reasnor. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son Eric on August 4, 2011.
Those left to honor Norm's memory include his wife Karol Swank; his daughter Lynnae (Jim) Osterson; his sons: Calvin (Debbie) Swank; Shawn Swank; Chad (Jodi) Swank and Mark (Callie) Swank; step daughters: Alisa (David) Jordan and Rondi (Kevin) Kaminski; his many grandchildren and one great grandchild; and his many friends.
